UPDATE - I got that epson. It really does scan 11x17, and it does it well. The B&W printing is pretty whack, I had to adjust the settings like five times before I got a decent print, and even that was not very good. Maybe there's some more I can do on my end. The wireless scan even worked once!

UPDATE - I got that epson. It really does scan 11x17, and it does it well. The B&W printing is pretty whack, I had to adjust the settings like five times before I got a decent print, and even that was not very good. Maybe there's some more I can do on my end. The wireless scan even worked once! You'll need a laser printer for crisp B & W. Inkjet is only good for color, and even then it depends. I have the 7840 and hate it for that reason, but it has many merits. It will literally print on any type of medium. I've printed on onion skin vellum, real newsprint, watercolor paper, cardstock, acetate transparencies, old glossy magazine pages, etc. And it will actually print larger than 11 x 17 (I think 13 x 19?) if you single feed the pages from the tray in the back of the machine. The key with all scanners is the same as with any electronics you buy (TVs, stereos, whatever) - disable ALL factory settings, as they usually favor damaging "sharpening" tools, noise reduction, trimming, and so on. You want the rawest image possible from your scan, and any work should be done after the fact in an image program.
