I hate that Instagram (and Twitter too) just get harder and harder for people to view if they aren't registered users (and my understanding is, also pretty hard to keep up with the people you follow if you are a registered user) but people keep on posting comics on there and it seems like that's the preferred site for the type of comics I like rather than other types of webcomics models.
But who do y'all like these days?
I'm a big fan of Snake Creek by Drew Lerman. instagram.com/drewlerman
Aaron Renier's doing a strip at instagram.com/unchained_melanie that looks good but I can't really read it (impossible to scroll too far back if you don't have an account, etc.)
Deforge is posting his Worlds Tour comic on his Twitter twitter.com/michael_deforge
IDK I'm sure people who are on social media officially are more in the know than me. I'm also pretty sure there are webcomics outside of Instagram I would like, I like Achewood as much as anybody, though I feel like at this point having that be my example of a webcomic I enjoy dates me considerably.
Bring back Tumblr!

haha Brian yu know how to get my goat, I couldn't agree more...! ! it sucks so much that you cant view anything if you aren't a registered user.... I did create a Tumblr acc for deadcrow purposes not too long ago but then I forgot to keep up with it, should get back on, im sure you and I have similar ideologies on the matter, its not that I necessarily hate social media or whatever, I just hate this monopolization of free information and subservience to the "algorithm..." although thats a different forum topic altogether.... anyways ill try and see if I can find the login for my Tumblr, I do check yours pretty often though, your writing on moving fortress by alcatena and Barreiro has me determined to track down a copy.
wish there were more easily accessible webcomics these days off of the major platforms, but I suppose you just have to keep up so you don't get pop ub blocked.... I remember when I was younger there was a really god magic the gathering webcomic that I followed religiously until I made a comment about some combo on their forum and some guy said I had no idea what I was doing, tried to track it down and ended up finding nothing, probably wasn't that good anyway, just need to satisfy some sort of nostalgic urge/convince myself those mediocre webcomics were not a dream....

I get not wanting to have social accounts even not wanting to do a burner account where you just sign up with a 2nd email and have an anonymous Instagram account just to keep up with comics, not just for Instagram based comics but sometimes being on social is the only way you’re gonna be informed of physical books dropping.
It's not impossible without signing up though, there are a ton of sites that let you view everything on an Instagram account without having one yourself, all you need is the username of the account you want to look at. imginn.com is one that has minimal ads and spam.

Big agree on Bring Back Tumblr but I can't say Crisis Zone wasn't a huge part of my day when it was being serialized on fartstagram. The only one I'm following now is Connor Willumsen's new thing "Grey Green", which is perfect of course: www.instagram.com/connorwillumsen/I would love it if someone started posting old newspaper strips on the 'gram every day the way they were (and I guess still are) in newspapers, that seems like a no-brainer. I've never enjoyed reading hundreds of pages of collected web strips because the format is so limited I get bored reading square box after square box (i.e. Dog Biscuits). But I would love a little slice of Gasoline Alley or whatever every day, that would be awesome. I guess the rights for that stuff would be a nightmare to lock down but I really like the concept of 10 panels a day of something ongoing. You don't ever get the glorious big format Sunday version but I'd keep up with like Steve Canyon or something from that era.

Mike it's not on Instagram but someone on reddit is posting comic strips from "A Hundred Years Ago Today" every single day. It's not just a few either, at this point I think each post is like 15 plus comic strips (one of which is Gasoline Alley.) I have been reading them for a bit and it's fun because of the format they chose you get the read fall themed strips as it's becoming fall and by the end of next month it will be a bunch of Halloween strips. They even do it for Sundays. Here is the account that posts them: www.reddit.com/user/Missy_Elliott_Smith/I would recommend clicking through to the imgur site to view them, then click on the image as most of them are scanned at a pretty high resolution, I was surprised. Here is todays link: imgur.com/a/YNFa5m6#rQyjrtx

The imginn shortcut is a good one, and I'm going to use it to check out the new Pete Toms comic: imginn.com/pete_toms/Pete is such an underrated cartoonist. Wish he had more stuff in print.

Appleguy is one of my current favorites. Great 4-panel gags. www.instagram.com/appleguy_comix/I also love Blind Alley, but I don't really keep up with it online regularly. Bought volume 1 and will buy volume 2 whenever it comes out in hardcopy.

I keep seeing people in instagram saying they are going to Mastodon or Hive but I imagine this is more a twitter-related thing than anything else?
I really dislike instagram and created sometime ago a Mastodon account, since it is community-owned, it's decentralized and have no algorithms (sounds like a dream). but then i realized i would be there pretty much by myself, so i haven't used it ever.
anyone using alternatives to instagram? i hope at some point a migration is coming...

I'd love to hear more thoughts on this question, I've been thinking about it myself as both a fan and a cartoonist. Honestly I've enjoyed this forum more than I have any social media in years... A lot of people are trying email newsletters, which I like reasonably well as a reader. That seems the most sustainable to me as a cartoonist too. But it's hard to get people to sign up for newsletters, and of course they're not helpful for discussion or for discovering new work. I haven't signed up for Hive or Mastodon yet, the prospect of figuring out yet another platform exhausts me. I did log back into my Tumblr for the first time in years, maybe I'll give that another try?

I've drafted my thoughts on this a few times and didn't post because I think it comes off as maybe more aggressive or confrontational then I intend when it's really just some stream of consciousness opinions on where we're at in this moment, but here we go...
I've tried Hive and it's underwhelming. I haven't tried Mastodon because I don't really see the difference between a decentralized, algorithm-free platform and just a bunch of blogs and newsletters. But I do need to give it a fair shake.
As both a consumer and a creator I have no problem with the algorithms on the current platforms. As a consumer they serve me what I like and help me find new things and allow me an easy option to mute and block stuff I don't want to see. As an artist, I don't expect them to serve me. That's not what they're there for. I'm not paying for the service. But if you do, then you can make them work in your favor. Love it or hate it, that's how it should work. I've never understood the sentiment that these platforms are here to serve us. Seems naive. But I also get not wanting to exist in that kind of environment.
I feel like a lot of people are going to expect the ease of a curated experience that comes with an algorithm and they're not going to like what they find and it's going to lead to stagnation.
I would rather see people keep moving to newsletters/blogs and be able to setup my own RSS of what I want to see and discover new things through recommendations from friends, or in zines and stuff, or through this message board.
