I've been thinking about this lately, because I'm considering whether to serialize a new long comic online. Like Floyd says above, I don't want to seem like a Luddite, holier than thou, etc. but I can't think of a sustainable way to do this. Reformatting a comic for Instagram, panel by panel, and keeping up with a daily posting schedule sounds awful to me - really makes me miss Tumblr's post scheduler. I'm glad it has worked for Josh and others. But I have limited time in the day for comics and I'd much rather spend it drawing.
I think a newsletter, or maybe chapters made available as free downloadable pdfs, is what I'll go with.

Re-investing in Tumblr. I haven't been on in years so it feels like being at a new school with no friends, but I can't wait to post art on a platform my mom doesn't follow me on. She is very supportive, but it doesn't help the renegade energy I try to channel with my comics. going on @kevinbaileycomics. I'll be looking for bubbles citizens on the app. An illustration I posted to Tumblr literally ten years ago got some traction over the weekend. I'm hoping that as Twitter becomes unusable that more and more people will start coming back.

Yeah I feel like Tumblr and IG are just different things, I've always enjoyed browsing Tumblr more but I've met WAY more people and had actual conversations with other artists and comic people and made friends on IG. I've also had some shops reach out about stocking my stuff which is always the best message to get and no one ever did that when I had a website and a Tumblr. The arbitrary censorship is annoying but I haven't gotten in trouble with anything yet. I haven't posted any "swipe" comics but I've been thinking about it. I like the idea of doing like 20 pages of square panels, posting it on IG, but then the remaining pages of the comic are only in print form, like a teaser or prologue? FB/IG is an awful company through and through but my experience using it has been mostly positive. Also I do have a Tumblr but I just use it for gifs that I make haha www.tumblr.com/gifgaff

Yeah, I've been thinking about this again with all the Twitter nonsense. What feels sustainable for me, in terms of committing to a regular schedule? What's realistic in terms of putting work in a place where people can/will actually find it? What's...at least marginally healthy in terms of not starting at my phone all day. I'm not sure. I've thought for years that a newsletter is a good idea in theory, but I can never produce one regularly in practice. Plus, honestly, I have very few subscribers.
When I'm actively drawing, I like IG because it's so simple to snap a picture, quickly post it, and move on. But then I forget for weeks at a time, ha.
