Starting to prep for an autumn trip to Japan - mainly Tokyo based, but likely ranging around a little, TBC - wondering if anyone here has some strong endorsements of places to seek out, manga or otherwise? It's actually not my first rodeo - last went fifteen (15!) years ago, did the tour of things like Mandarake and Taco Che then, but tastes have only since matured since then (arguably soured..) ...
Keen also to have some inspiration of untranslated work to seek out that functions well on the purely visual level.
Also - anyone UK based, if there's a book or two you have been pining to get, send me a DM, and we can work something out.

If you have any interest, a couple of my friends are Tokyo-based travel YouTubers (https://www.youtube.com/@kydeanderic, I promise they are not the typical annoying click bait youtubers) and while they aren't comics folks, they do have a Discord with a bunch of people who live in or travel to Tokyo a lot, including some UK-based folks, and they are great for all kinds of recommendations. I'm a mod on the Discord..let me know if you want an invite.
Also, I'm jealous. I still need to get over there. I was starting to plan a trip pre-pandemic and and haven't had the opportunity since.

If you are interested in untranslated work, I would visit Jimbocho district, it is full of used bookstores.
Though I don't know how much manga you can find there, but the stores are interesting and I would say worth a visit (to my shame, I very rarely visited those when I was in Japan because I was not too invested in manga at the time, even though my workplace was in that area...)

Well since you said "manga or otherwise" and I'm jealous, I'd like to recommend a restaurant: Osaka Kushikatsu Tenyawanya (大阪串かつ てん家わん屋) a little ways down the street between the Okubo and Shin Okubo. Somehow the oil is lighter there so you can eat a bunch of kushi katsu and feel less gross than at other places.

Sure, why not - are you on the bubbles discord awfulquiet? I'm the same username there.

Several Jinboncho stores are already pinned on my map - especially this one

Awesome, pinned - I'm lucky to be travelling to see my (Japanese fluent) sister and her Japanese spouse, so hoping they can parley my way to some great eating..!

Has anyone here been to Mount Zine? I’ve heard that spot is pretty amazing! From what I’ve gathered, they completely reset their stock every six months and take every zine offered at the time.
