Okay, off topic from comics, but it's a visual medium with words and pictures but instead of being silent and still they are loud and move. So theyre kinda similar right? Plus I hear that comic movies are all the rage right now. So what have you watched lately? Did it rock or did it stink? Did it influence the way you make or read comics?
Some recent watches:
Seconds (1966) - Total fucking banger of a movie. Like a long and really good episode of the Twilight Zone. Every moment is either sad or disturbing, or maybe a combination of both. Involving identity crises and a bit of gangstalking.
Miami Blues (1990) - So fucking fun. Probably a new favorite of mine. Alec Baldwin gets out of jail, falls in love with the first girl he meets and wants to live the American dream, but can't stop robbing people. He also steals a cop's badge and puts it to some use. Hilarious without being a goofy 80's comedy. Also it's Miami so it looks amazing.
Harold and Maude - Super let down. I hate Cat Stevens. Corny, too quirky, blech.

Been on a classic cinema kick this year for some reason, just obsessed with Barbara Stanwyck movies in particular lately. Also watched a really cool documentary called "Dawson City: Frozen Time" which is about a buncha silent films that were unearthed in the late 70s.

Recently saw Local Hero (1983) and it was so charming and pleasant to watch. Big laughs, but a relaxed energy and very good natured. Oil company rep gets sent to a small Scottish village that is poised to cash out on their properties by building a refinery on their coast. Rep gets a taste of the small town life, meets the different characters, things happen.

The Charles Willeford Hoke Mosley books are among the best ever, if you’re inclined towards fiction. Miami Blues was the first one. I like Possessed. I even subscribed.

Really looking forward to hunkering down every weekend this October and watching horror movies. I've got a stack of Japanese horror and ghost stories that I've had on the shelf for a while that I'm excited to watch for the first time or re-watch like Ugetsu, Kwaidan, Kuroneko, House, etc.

Yo, I watched Heat (Michael Mann, 1995) for the first time last weekend, that shit rules. It's such a beautifully shot film! It's got such a cool and sorta timeless look to it. And for how long it is (2:50!), it MOVES. Everyone involved in the movie is just firing on all cylinders! I LOVED it

last nite i watched Martin Scorsese‘s After Hours and really enjoyed it. the pacing is great and the way the story sort of folds in on itself drives the dramatic irony of the whole thing. definitely will be revisiting this one again, maybe the jokes will land harder on second watch with a friend

Love the bouncy-ball-on-the-loose energy of everything. Definitely one of my favorites.

Just recently watched After Hours as well, and loved it.
I had a fantastic time working my way through most of Criterion Channel's Neo-Noir collection last month. Seeing Body Double for the first time and rewatching Blowout were the highlights for me. Blow Out is a perfect movie, IMO.

Fucking perfect 80s camp while still being super engaging. De Palma is the fucking man.

Charles Willeford is amazing, totally insane guy / life, he wrote some gnarly good pulp. I think bolano took his whole shit from burnt orange heresy lol. the Hoke Mosley mysteries are some of my favorites.
