Trots and Bonnie is so good. Really glad that got collected, what a unique artist Flenniken is.
I recently finished Oliver East's Trains Are... Mint trilogy (pretty fun and interesting early work) and just started Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki, which is wild so far, really loving the mix of overblown pathos with utter absurdity.

Just got the Astro Boy Omnibus 1 in at the library where I work, so that is going to be my weekend. Never read any before but am enjoying it so far. I adore these omnibuses, they have a whole cube on my ikea shelf in my living room. Absolutely the best bedtime reading, in my opinion. I just picked up Lemire's Essex County from my local library, and have been reading through a lot of Michael DeForge books I never got around to also in between non-comics schoolwork and literature. yeah I also have 2 DeForge books that I never got to - which is crazy! I gotta hit Familiar Face soon.

Just finished Trots and Bonnie yesterday (it’s great), today I’m “reading” (taking pictures of pages and machine translating random passages) from a crazy 70s men’s comics mangaka named Ichiro Iijima. I buy a lot of Japanese books and do stuff like that and post about em on Insta to pad my enjoyment and interaction considering I can’t, yknow, read them. I love the stuff you post on Instagram!

We haven't met but I follow you on instagram (found you through Bubbles and the related comics-sphere) and I've been really enjoying your posts about that yokai book, thank you for your work on this stuff! oh shit, thanks a lot! I've been over-sharing from comics for quite a while now (especially in my Tezuka FB group), but seeing Bubbles, and Brian letting me write for it, kindof helped me branch out a bunch and talk to a bunch of new folks. It's been cool and im real thankful for it.

Really really glad people like it! I'm actually just about to post a story summary that is utterly bonkers. preview: I hope folks don't mind that im not too reciprocal in terms of likes and follows and such. i already find IG overwhelming, the last thing i can handle is getting into the wealth of other cool collections and young artists on there..

I just got the Romano Scarpa "Man From Altacraz" collection for my birthday, looking forward to digging into it. Also I got the James Patterson reboot of The Shadow from the library, so that should be great ha ha.

I just re-read Stray Toasters. The last issue remains disappointing, but it doesn’t matter, every page that guy made makes me shake my head. Still refreshing to me that his protagonists (Elektra’s buddy too) are drawn like clunked up William Forsythe. Has this ever been addressed?

I just reread Elektra Assassin for 1st time in over a decade, love looking at his stuff just so poisoned by 80s-90s serious comics dude writer energy.

I've been reading vol 2 of The Drifting Classroom.
I sped through the first volume, but this one's been rough because it's mostly about a bunch of kids getting infected with the plague. Hitting a little too close to home. I keep trying to read it during lunch and have to stop. I'm really eager to see how the whole story wraps up though.

Once you finish the series, I highly recommend checking out the film adaptation. It's directed by the guy who directed Hausu and is totally wild AND it's even on youtube right now: www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_NfIL_JTJI
