Here's a follow-up question. How do you introduce yourself when offering your wares to comic book stores? Like do you have a template you say that has yielded success?
Like, I know about offering at least 50% wholesale discount, and maybe even free Media Mail shipping if they buy X-amount of stuff. But what else do you say?

The people who operate some of the shops on that list, or other distros, are here on the forums and might be able to speak to it better. But it really depends on the shop. Most do 60/40 (with the creator getting 60%) or a 50/50 split. I didn't expect or ask any of the shops to cover the shipping and only one seemed to feel the need to mention that I had to cover shipping to get my books to them. I was only sending 2-5 copies each of two different comics Maybe it's different with larger quantities. There are a good handful that require no communication up front. Like Quimby's or Floating World. Print out the form, follow the instructions, send them your books. Otherwise it's just been a simple "Hey I have these books I'm looking to get into shops. Here's some info. Would you be willing to carry them? What do I need to do to get them in your hands?" They provide their --usually very simple-- terms. You agree or don't. Move on from there.

Thanks! Yeah, this is reasonable. Was overthinking heh.
I've had success with Quimby's, having sold a ton of comics there over the years. Thanks for the tip about Floating World, tho! Will look them up!

Just sold my books to two of the stores listed in this thread, and several others have said they're considering.
This thread is a valuable resource for indie cartoonists. Thanks a bunch!

It's also worth looking into record shops. While comics generally aren't their specialty, you'll find a surprising amount that'll buy zine-type like that if you go up and ask them if they can stock your title.

I'd also stock any forum user's comic or zine. My shop is at alltheoldpoisons.myshopify.com; it's mostly international and used books, but I'm carrying manoopuesta 's comic and adding a few more in the coming weeks. DM me if you're interested!

Will definitely be in touch once I do a re-print run on some stuff.

Quimby's, of course, in Chicago. Takes 5 copies. (And as noted in another thread-- it may take several months to hear back about a check-in on your comics. They are organizing tons of inventory ). Consignment form on their website. They do a "New Stuff Saturday" video every week where they might mention your comic-- but not guaranteed since they have a lot coming in.
Also Chicago Comics. CC recently started accepting only 3 new minicomics due to space considerations. (If it sells quick enough-- they'll take 5 next time). Consignment form on their website.
Howling Pages (also Chicago) is a fairly new shop and accepts 5 copies of minicomics. They fill out the consignment form for you. Also they post a picture on website of every comic that comes in-- very helpful and supportive!
In the past, I've tried other local shops. While they reluctantly accepted my stuff-- on a later visit I saw they had them shoved with other minicomics out of sight in a crushed box hidden under a table. Space is tough so it's okeydoke. Just a difference between accepting and supporting.

Austin Books & Comics in Austin, TX; Gotham Newsstand in San Antonio, TX. Both shops carry my mini comics, and Austin Books has one of the best sections devoted to self published works I’ve personally seen.

Update: Chicago comics is back to accepting 5 comics from consignors. It was just a temporary space thing.
