Hi all,
Drawn and Quarterly is having a rare sale July 14 to 17. Because Fantagraphics runs its sale annually, I've done some significant scrolling and research on its catalog. But I'm finding that I have more questions about D&Q's offerings and figured I'd pose the questions: What do you recommend? And what are you picking up?
I'm particularly curious for thoughts about D&Q's various archival series: Walt and Skeezix, the John Stanley books, etc. How are the John Stanley Nancy books?
And are there any sleeper picks in the catalog that you don't think get enough love?
Here's my long list for now, which I expect to adjust:
Update: The final list left out Nipper, Talk to My Back, and The Swamp and added three volumes of Nancy, Big Questions, and The Panther. Altogether another wild one for my bank account.

My list all depends on if the complete Dirty Plotte goes on further discount than it already is on their site. If so, I'll probably only add a couple of these with the Showa titles being my priorities. If not, I'll probably pick up the whole list depending on how much of them trends toward %60 off.
Time Zone J NonNonBa Talk to My Back The Sky is Blue with a Single Cloud Trash Market Leonard Cohen Dirty Plotte: The Complete Julie Doucet I Know You Rider Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus Showa 1953-1989 Showa 1944-1953 Showa 1939-1944 The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist The Swamp

I scooped up the 3 Nancy books. Disappointed they were out of Thirteen Going on Eighteen. There are tons of great books in the sale; I may do a second run on the sale. Got my eye on Wimbledon Green, Reggie-12, Acme Novelty, Marble Season, Pippi---so much great stuff.

I know, it seems like they had a couple copies of Thirteen Going on Eighteen, but they went fast!

Did anyone spot anything for 60% off?
I picked up:
Tubby Walt Before Skeezix (now I have everything published by King!) Optic Nerve issues 2-4 (just missing a few now) The Con Artists The Great Northern Brotherhood of Canadian Cartoonists (only just discovered it's described as a sequel to Wimbledon Green, which is my favourite Seth book, so I had to get this)
Here's my D&Q suggestions
Wimbledon Green - Seth The Push Man and other stories - Tatsumi Reunion - Pascal Girard Walt and Skeezix - get the first 2 books if you've never tried it before Something from John Porcellino, all great stuff Get as many Michel Rabagliati books as you can, they're incredible Killing and Dying by Adrian Tomine if you have somehow slept on this for the last 7 years

Pretty amazing to see they still have copies of early-ish Optic Nerve, Underwater, Berlin, Big Questions, Dirty Plotte, Louise Riel and Ed The Happy Clown. All 40% off cover even. Underwater is one that'll probably never see a proper collection too.
I spent a fat $197 (including shipping) but filled out a ton of stuff I've wanted to buy for a while.
Moomin volumes 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 Nancy by John Stanley volumes 1,2,3 Good-Bye A Single Match The Box Man Red Snow
I was tempted to get some of those cute $4 Moomin books for my newly born nephew, but he's just not quite old enough. But $4, what a deal.

FWIW, I just finished ready Talk to My Back and LOVED it. Really great slice-of-life stories from a segment of society we don't see much in manga (young, dissatisfied moms). Highly recommended.

Solid picks. A Single Match is incredible and no one talks about it

Just to close this loop, the D&Q site has lil tabs for 50% off and 60% off books, which might be most visible in a computer browser.

Mama, how much was the shipping to the UK??
I was all set to buy Skibber Bee Bye and Art Comic, but then I got the astounding fee for shipping to Spain (43$), so it costs me more than buying from Europe without any discount... too bad.

I'm trying out one of those lockers where it stores away all items and sends them away when you're all ready. It sounds fairly priced but we'll see, it's a trial really

Piggybacked with a friend, to save on ship, and ended up picking up 9 books: Benson's Cuckoos by Anouk Ricard White Cube by Brecht Vandenbroucke All 3 volumes of Doug Wright's NipperFour of the five John Stanley collections that I was still after: Melvin Monster 2+3, Tubby and Thirteen Going on EighteenAnd 10 flops: Yummy Fur 27, 28, 31 Louis Riel 8 Or Else 5 Optic Nerve 5, 7, 8, 11, 14 Definitely take the time to search for stuff that you're after by title, just going by the artist's name or the discount tabs winds up leaving quite a few options/opportunities out. Disappointed they were out of Thirteen Going on Eighteen ... I may do a second run on the sale. Back in stock, so you know.

Thirteen Going on Eighteen popping back up in stock got me to place my order finally...have been going back and forth since the sale started. Grabbed that, Tubby, the 3 Nancy collections, and the Club Life in Moominvalley book.
