I feel like this is a fun thing to think about that always changes (for me at least). I've been shuffling my favorite EC artists since childhood. I've really come to admire John Severin more and more as time goes on. Here's what I'd put down currently:
1. Johnny Craig (even though there's something about him I kinda can't stand, he's still the best) 2. Krigstein 3. Reed Crandall (just because I don't see him enough so I'm excited when he pops up) 4. Elder 5. Severin
lately if I'm flipping through stuff, I just don't feel like reading Wood, which would have been unthinkable to me years ago. But if I see Severin/Elder as a byline on a Two Fisted Tales story, I'll definitely read it.

I’m kinda dumb so my opinion isn’t worth much but I like hearing what others think of EC - so many great illustrators in there
My list personally;
1. Jack Davis
2. Graham Ingels
3. Johnny Craig
4. Harvey Kurtzman
5. Reed Crandall
John Severin was fighting hard for that last spot too
I find it interesting how a lot of Davis’ stuff looks pretty similar but just by changing it a tad it can be really amazing horror or humour or perfect for the war books too. Really love his stuff
I gotta go back and reread some Kirgstein stuff though - it’s honestly been ages since I’ve thought of him

1. Wood - His style, especially during his time at EC, is pretty much my gold standard for that classic comic aesthetic. Master of shadows and spaceships and incredibly weird aliens. Also much respect for his influence on the self-publishing world with his work on witzend. 2. Craig - My go-to for EC crime stories. Beautiful clean drawing style. Respect that he wrote the majority of his stories as well as drawing them. 3. Ghastly - The most horrific EC artist. I might be paraphrasing someone, but everything he drew was grotesque! If these rankings were just based off the horror stories, he’d be at the top. 4. Krigstein - Maybe the closest to art comics of the bunch. When I first saw the thread style, I thought it was a ranking of stories, and Master Race was at the top of that list for me. 5. Feldstein - His drawings were flat and stories rigid but I love them anyway. He was such a workhorse that I’d feel disrespectful omitting him.

yeah I kinda got into feldstein a few years ago, his stuff is just so straightforward, it's very pleasing to read. kinda clunky but a very workable clunkiness.
