Simple idea: Someone says what their tastes are in comics, what they're looking for, other comics they like; you make a recommendation based on that.
I'll go first: I'm looking for something about what it's like to be a human being right now, what daily life is like. No surreal internet humor, no body horror, no near-future satire please. Nothing "genre." Bonus points for unbearable sincerity. I like black and white inky comics, comics that show the human hand. Eddie Campbell, David B., Beto Hernandez, Julie Doucet. Fruity, with earthy undertones, acidic bite, lots of fragrant aftertastes.
Whattaya got?

Or Artist by Yeong-shin Ma. Depends what what kind of "human" you are. Walking Man is a more universal zen of being alive, Artist is just a long comic where the characters feel like real people you get to know.

great thread idea!
i'm always on the hunt for cartoonist sketchbook reproductions. zines, books, minis, whatever. just non-narrative doodles and whatever with maybe some short comics mixed in is fine, the more raw and gnarly the better. examples: Guillaume Singelin "Junky", Chris Ware "Acme Novelty Date Book(s)", Erik Svetloft "Limbo", Joe Grillo "Slime and Smiles", James Jean "Process Recess", Josh Cotter "Driven by Lemons". thanks!

I was rereading Jambalaya by Nate Garcia last night and it seems like in that vein. I think he's got a new one coming out too. That new Charles Burns Cornelius zine with the Mothra sketches looks like that too but I haven't read it.

Mark Smeets, a Dutch underground cartoonist who died young, basically only did sketchbook comics in a really gorgeous ligne-claire style. Matt Seneca is a fan. If you can get your hands them, I'd recommend any of the reprint collections of his work or issue 1 of Joost Swarte's short-lived mag Scratches which has a section on him (and some other cool stuff). I don't have it but I think there's also something of his in Kramers Ergot 6. I know an English language collection was part of the original NYRC pitch but that obviously never came to fruition.

"Sound of Snow Falling" -- anyone have any recommendations for more comics like this? Not that it has to be about winter, or owls, or even nature or wordless-- but just have a hankering for comics that are slow careful observations of a single subject over time, with the only "plot" really being the passage of time. Zero points awarded for that Crumb America comic, I know that one already.

Who can recommend me more good Milo Manara? I've only read The Definitive Collection. I really enjoyed the first two stories most. What's the stuff that's the "best"?
