Indie/Art/Underground Comics Landmarks (NYC Mostly....?)

My friend's Spider-Man-obsessed niece was visiting NYC and asked me for appropriate landmarks to go visit and I thought rather than, like, Peter Parker's house in Queens I'd recommend places a kid would actually recognize, like Anthology Film Archives which is Doc Ock's lab, or the Roosevelt Island tram, or Columbia University, and then I realized those are all references from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies that the kid probably hasn't seen anyways so who cares.

But then I started thinking about other famous comics landmarks in NYC. Like 147 Essex Street. My own neighborhood's claim to fame (to me and no-one else) is that every day I walk by the block Julie Doucet lived on which I only initially recognized because these crazy buildings on stilts are still there (also its 191st not 181st and its north of the GW Bridge not south but quibbles, quibbles).

This might be kind of the lamest sounding answer that I find funny I'M even saying, but while they're there, along the way while they do whatever else is actually more interesting, simply riding the subways & taking a walk through Central Park & seeing the buildings in Manhattan is a pretty worthwhile experience to have in your memory if the weather isn't too crazy. I don't know a whole lot more specific stuff since I've only been there once before (stayed in a different airbnb in different boroughs every night & like 10hrs in jail) but I stayed in a hostel with a friend from Austria & snuck onto the rooftop to overlook Central Park for most of a night & it was quite a sight to enjoy, very different than where I live. It's all vaguely recognizable from all kinds of movies, shows, comics, video games, etc. & not exactly somewhere I'd ordinarily find myself outside of travelling, but visually it's pretty cool to check out.

I wrote to him a few times before he died and heard back twice. Not sure there's much to see or if you can even get near room 715, but might be worth pointing out if you walk by the building.
