Really love this artist's bizarre and intense work and we definitely lost a master in the last few months of 2019. He has such a unique vision fixated on grotesque body horror, erotica, and violence, which Saeki says as much about himself. Interviews with him reveal a playfulness, gentility, and total self awareness of how perverse his images are. His work is hard to collect though (and can be expensive) and I'm hoping that the French publisher Cornelius finishes the series of books they've been putting out. It was a 3-4 year wait between Scarlet Dream and Red Box so maybe something is planned for release soon or perhaps it's been put on hold since his passing. I would really love a copy of Onikage: The Art of Toshio Saeki put out by Last Gasp a while ago. I'm totally fascinated by his coloring process. This book has amazing overlays that show that process in detail. From the publisher description of Onikage: Throughout, paper vellum overlays reproduce Saeki's unique method for adding color to his black and white artwork. He does not apply color directly, but instead uses overlays to indicate the exact colors he wants. He calls this method chinto printing - the picture is complete only after it has been printed - a modern version of the ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese woodcut prints.
Anyone else collect his works?

Those Cornelius editions are so nice! Definitely hope there are more to come. I debated buying that luxe slipcase collection that came out shortly before his death (not sure who the publisher was) but couldn't justify the $$$
