There is an article in TCJ about Liberatore ( here) that I have yet to read, but got me thinking of how much I like the Italian comics I have read, but how little I know about that scene, not only from nowadays but also previous generations. So it would be great if people here would share their knowledge about fumetto (i.e. italian comics).
I will start with what little I know: I think I have already talked about Andrea Pazienza somewhere else in this forum but here I go again: he is one of my favourite cartoonists and I highly recommend his comics.
Also, I know Liberatore and Tamburini from their comic RanXerox. And I know a bit about Tamburini's magazine Frigidaire thanks to a great article in a Mould Map issue (which leads me now to hope they would reissue Mould Map, since that single issue I own is just amazing).
Another great cartoonist is Massimo Mattioli and his Squeak The Mouse.
And from nowadays, I like very much Gipi's comics.
And of course, there is Hugo Pratt.
Finally, Linus magazine, which I have heard of often, but never read.

I liked Igort's 5 is the Perfect Number, a crime drama, and Japanese Notebooks, which recounts his time creating weekly manga in Japan. There's also this cartoonist named Jacovitti I've been curious about. His stuff has a wild Don Martin type energy, but I haven't seen any of his comics either in the original or translation except images online:

I just read the article, and it was very informative, thank you. I hope also someone translates some of Tuono Pettinato's work. I hadn't heard of him before but I would like to read more now I have seen glimpses of his work.

Been obsessed with Mattioli's "Superwest" comics for a number of years.
Squeak is "fine" (doesn't do a lot for me but I'm no fun) but the black humor, anti-America/consumption-critical themes and visceral mixed media of Superwest really put it on another level IMO. I'd love to know if Mattioli put out similar work

I have been suscribed for some time to an italian comics digital newsletter called Lani Di Roccia, in case someone else may be interested. It has always a lot of new cool stuff. It is all in italian though, but I just use google translate on it.

I've only read Kobane Calling, which I found in a comics store several years ago and bout on a whim. It was really good and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone interested in current events, memoirs, or comics as journalism. I didn't connect with Zerocalcare's art style right away either, but reading that book I appreciated that he is certainly a master of the craft - both in terms of drawing and in storytelling.
I have yet to see any other of his books while browsing in the US but am curious to read more of his work.
