When you’re writing or drawing or doing carpentry or whatever it is you do. What music do you listen to? Or do you prefer podcasts?
When I’m writing I tend to prefer bleeps and bloops like Satoshi and Makoto, or jazz that is kind of upbeat and smooth like Bossa Antigua by Paul Desmond. For some reason that album makes me crack up so it makes me write funnier stuff.
When I draw I listen to the Ramones a bunch because John Holmstrom is the damn god to me and I like to imagine I can feel his juices mingling with my juices.

I love listening to records while I work on art. Probably my second favorite time to listen to music (following along to the liner notes is #1 - of course). Lately my favs have been Bob Dylan and John Fahey. That shit just makes me feel right.

When I'm working on designing pages for bubbles sometimes I'll just listen to the same song on repeat for hours haha

I’ve had WFMU on in the background through a lot of lockdown, if I actually have to pick what I’m playing I’ll tend to hyperfocus on it.

Whenever I’m doing the final edits to some writing I always listen to Judas Priest - Painkiller. It’s a ritual at this point.

Most of my work these days is in the form of reading papers/books for school, so I have been listening to a lot of instrumental and foreign language music lately. A buddy turned me on to some great playlists of 60/70s Vietnamese and Ethiopian music, and I am starting to dip my toes into "eleki" music (60s Japanese surf music inspired by the Ventures' tour in Japan). If you have any recommendations of music along these lines or want a link to some of these playlists, please HMU! Finally re-installed soulseek so I'm ready to get really deep into some new music haha.

You might also like the archival releases from Les Disques Bongo Joe (https://lesdisquesbongojoe.bandcamp.com/) and Born Bad Records (https://shop.bornbadrecords.net/), both of which I've gotten into very recently. Cool stuff to explore!

Longmont Potion Castle has been my go-to lately. Something about hearing lo-fi recordings of people having a meltdown really helps my creative process.

Love listening to nts.live - all different kinds of music. Shows are archived and tagged so it is easy to listen to past shows of whatever kind of music you're in the mood for

i can't really listen to podcasts until i get to inking, too much active thinkwork for puny brain up to that point...
i finally got an FM antenna in the studio so lately it's college radio unless the DJ's just too baby. the UNC station has strong enough management/curation that even if the kids are playing The Killers or whatever there'll be something good on rotation coming up. Duke and NC State are bigger gambles.
also, knxwledge tapes
