Doesn't have to be comics related. I just worked today. Got off. Sucks being tired, I don't even want to read when I'm tired. I'm way more of a morning person when it comes to getting stuff done.
I did win an instagram raffle for a free t-shirt for Lee's Fried Chicken today. My preferred chain chicken fast food.

I think as you get older that tiredness just gets worse, argh. (So weird, 154 people here over the past 24 hours and no posts... It must be me lol) My unemployment has run dry like it has for millions, so I spend part of every day looking for a job. Demoralizing reading the bullet points for some hiring manager's personal James Bond for the last year and a half. Otherwise I try to maintain some semblance of a schedule, so I work on comics a little, do some reading, go for a walk, pretend I'm Edison and take a nap.

I've been healing from a broken ankle and subsequent surgery since this past May. Some days are better than others, especially since months of immobility have impacted my health overall, but I'm trying to find a silver lining in all things otherwise I'll lose my mind.
Today I exercised, met some friends for lunch, and put some more work into an anthology of critical pedagogy related essays I'm co-editing. I saw the French Dispatch the other day and loved it, so I might go for another viewing or visit my favorite local bookstore tonight.

Day was great, I highly recommend working with children as a way to fight the blues. I teach art at a public school and it's pretty crazy but in the best ways. Even if I mess something up or have a rough week I still feel fulfilled in some small way. Teaching, tutoring, being a Big Brother, do it! Kids are the best (especially when you don't have or want kids of your own).

Submitted a business plan for NEIS! In Australia we got this business course you can do called NEIS, if you have a good business plan you can get on it and have about 8-9 months of government welfare and make money through your business without it effecting your welfare payments. Just made a plan around Patreon, selling original pages and zine launches lol. Totally succesful genuine business! After that I caught Dune at the movies. Pretty fun, can't believe its only half the first book, but still enjoy a lot of it. Hard to go wrong with someone just overcoming assassins and giant worms.

This morning I was able to get tickets to see The Cure on their next tour which I'm really excited about and then met up with a friend to talk about comics and zines. Pretty good day.

The bookstore I work at is in the process of moving across the street and I’m basically in charge of the grunt work aspects and management of people. It’s stressful but my partner is working with me which makes it so much better and manageable. I’m just exhausted tho, been working past week straight and will continue for the next week. Starting to read king cat has timed up really well w this as something that i look forward to on my commute and at home, haha. I’m reading classix currently. How was your day?

What's the shop? That must be a massive task!
Yesterday, I did my first ever courtroom argument. I've been out of school for five years, so I guess it was about time, but it was exhilarating and difficult. I am cycling through the many moments I could have answered the judges' questions differently, but it was the rare time when I felt basically good about the job I did. As a reward (because I was a good boy), I went to Second Story Books in Dupont Circle and found used copies of Winshluss's Pinocchio and Moebius and Jodorowsky's Madwoman of the Sacred Heart.

It’s a great shop I really enjoy working there. Used and new books, we get in some good used comics. Got today off for a snow day, thankfully! The move is going well though. Congrats on your courtroom argument! That’s sounds super intense. Today I’m just reading at home and resting before returning to move the store haha. Reading these John Stanley Little Lulus wishing I knew where i could to get more for like a couple bucks each

Reviving this thread to share the travel plans I've just made - I've shared my admiration for the works of Fabrice Neaud before - a French artist who made a series of uncompromising diary comics in the 90s and early 00s. As part of his works being republished this year, he is doing a showing of his work in Caen, a small city on the Normandy coast, from next week. His work was the primary reason I first started teaching myself to read French.
... and so I've decided on a spur to go on a whirlwind two day trip from London to be there for the signing event linked to the show, taking an overnight ferry from the southern English coast, staying the night of the signing in France, and then looping back through Paris and then to home on the Eurostar. Normally, I'm a comfort traveller - late morning flights and plenty of idle time, so this is going to be quite the literary pilgrimage for me!
I've teed up my trip so I can spend the afternoon on the way back browsing some of Paris's comic shops, so anticipate a haul shot or two come mid March!

Non-related to this thread, but I am trying to learn French just to get to read more books and comics in their original language, so how did you go about it? Using Duolingo at the moment, I don't know if this will last long, haha

I think duolingo probably isn't the best way to start. That said I don't think my method can be recommended either! but I'll outline what I did:
For context I did do some French in my early years in high school (never sure what the US equivalent of this is - I would have been about 14 when I stopped learning it). By the time I wanted to take a stab at reading French comics, I was in my early twenties, and I had only retained the rudiments of French - basic verb conjugations, numbers, the stereotyped conversational basics, etc. However maybe this grounding did do a lot of heavy lifting unconsciously - I would suggest trying to supplement duolingo with some formal grammar explanation via textbooks etc to help you along.
The bulk of my learning was by sheer stubborn force of will - started with comics for kids, attempted to "read" them, noted down all the words I didn't understand (the large bulk in the begining), looked up their meaning, did vocab drills until I memerised them, repeated this process over and over advancing to progressively more sophisticated texts as my confidence grew (probably when I first realised I could tackle contemporary prose fiction was the real aha! moment for me that my efforts were paying off). However this is a pretty distorted path for language aquisition as I don't really speak nor confidently write the language, none of my learning was geared that way. I also actively read French all the time so that I retain my ability to read, I think I'd probably lose it again if I left it for some time.

Thanks for all the pointers. Yes, probably duolingo is not the best way, I am just starting in a very lazy way, as you can tell. It is ok for vocabulary (so much repetition, it is like using memory cards) but it is lacking a lot in grammar. I haven't studied ever before french, but I am a native spanish speaker, so many things come easy to me. I guess it may be a while until I can read anything. Which kid comics were you reading? Now only Asterix & Obelix comics come to mind, and they feel too difficult to start with. Maybe some picture books would be my idea for starters.
