This seems like a perfect forum topic. Who are your favorite Good Cartoonists Gone? Who have you heard third hand is secretly working on a huge book? Who used to be Gone but is now Back?
There's always, sadly, so many to list, but some folks who have been on my mind lately:
Richard Hahn
Joe Lambert
Debbie Drechsler, of course
Dunja Jankovic still makes great work but it's mostly not comics
Fabrice Neaud hasn't made new work in like 10 years, as far as I know...

Joe Matt, supposedly working on a book about his L.A. years after he got booted out of Canada in 2002 but he hasn't offered any updates since 2007. He hasn't gone radio silent since he still posts commissions on his Instagram, but he hasn't done a new book in almost 15 years.
There are a bunch of people who no longer make comics due to working in animation, but I guess that’s different.
For me the only one that comes to mind is Joe Lambert. He was just so insanely talented, and I can’t imagine the kind of work he might have made if he’d continued. I search his name every once in awhile but find nothing.
Still holding out hope he’s gonna show up one day with a 700 page GN or something.
I once read a book called Hair Shirt by Patrick McEown at the beach. Enjoyed it quite a bit; it was really mysterious and strange and the art stuck with me. Haven't heard about him since. Same situation with another book called Black Lung by Chris Wright.

Oh man I love Black Lung. I think he's working on something and he's just "off grid", but not sure where I heard that now. Patrick McEown teaches in Montreal according to google, I remember reading Hair Shirt (because of the Dave Cooper connection) and similarly enjoying the strange atmosphere of it.

Not familiar with Cooper. I see he is associated with Fantagraphics. Any recommendations? And what is the connection with Hair Shirt?
Mudbite and Ripple are nice works. I like his cartooning more than the writing, his writing seems standard horny man comics, which, if you are into that, this might be a plus.
Keith Mayerson is a good one. Horror Hospital is a masterclass in how to vary your style and approach but also make a work that feels cohesive. I really love that book.
Becca Taylor, who did The Wonderful Year in the early 2000s. There was a collected edition that has no info on who published it or when that I got a Quimby's a few months ago. I think it was self-published this year. But I'd love to see more from her.

I love Pat McEown! He did a bunch of short comics in Vertigo anthos for a while, but the main things for me are his three-issue ZombieWorld series and the backup in Dave Cooper's Weasel #1.

Brian Chippendale occassionally posts updates on some ancient project on Instagram I forget what it's called. hoping he puts some books out again at some point. he's been crankin out Black Pus music lately though so that's great.
